Through the Dancing Veterans Project, almost 200 sometimes stoic and reticent war veterans dance a jig, sing a song and share their stories. Watching them collaborate, the sense of camaraderie and support is palpable.
These senior veterans may have started as skeptics, but today, they are now dancing, telling stories, and helping each other to stand and sing. They are contributing, creating and making a difference as artistic collaborators each week.
This arts and wellbeing projects are creating new models placing elders at the center of intergenerational community life while also promoting physical and emotional health benefits. Recognized by the National Endowment for the Arts and the National Center for Creative Aging, the programs encourage people to be their best selves through artistic engagement.
