Start the conversation – what does your client really want?

April 16th is National Healthcare Decisions Day. In honor of this day, Honoring Choices Minnesota/Twin Cities Medical Society is hosting a statewide community listing of all Minnesota-centered events. The goal is to share how to make informed choices and how to document them.

Among the many days of observances in our healthcare field, this one is a great reminder about the importance of communication and starting the conversation. We spend so much effort on caring for our clients and guiding them through some very difficult decisions, it’s nice to take a step back and remember to ask our clients one of the most important questions: what do you want? This one question will help solve any mysteries down the road and establishes the person – their goals, priorities and wishes. With this valuable information, we are able to begin to pave the path for a more meaningful life with the client’s voice clearly captured.

To help answer any questions you have about healthcare decision-making for your clients, Lifesprk is hosting a free CEU event on advance directives presented by Monica Mahon, LSW, staffing manager with Lifesprk. Join us for this event on Tuesday, May 14 at 2 p.m. at Village Shores in Richfield, Minnesota. RSVP your attendance to Tressa Daily at tdaily@lifesprk.com by May 10.

What are you doing to observe National Healthcare Decisions Day? And, how are you starting the conversation with your clients?
